Remote piloting and flight automation technologies are already being used in critical use cases such as emergency services, wildland firefighting, and utility inspection. Recent advances in aircraft technology, airspace integration, and the regulatory environment are ushering in a new era where larger remote piloted aircraft-- with larger payloads and longer ranges-- are beginning to enter commercial service, with ongoing efforts to adapt these systems to maritime and shipboard applications. Many recents milestones are bringing us ever closer to a transformation in the safety, scale, and cost of offshore logistics.
